Walden Day Care is in a purchase of service agreement with the City of Greater Sudbury for childcare subsidies.

  • The City of Greater Sudbury provides financial support for those who qualify for formal day care services.

"Child Care Subsidy is a program of the City of Greater Sudbury which helps families by paying some or all of their child care costs for children up to 12 using licensed or other approved child care programs."

Child Care Subsidy

A new income test, which distributes child care fee subsidies based on income instead of a complex formula based on needs, has come into effect on January 1st, 2007.

Under the income test, families with net income up to $20,000 will be eligible for a full subsidy for licensed child care. Families with an annual adjusted income (line 236 on the notice of assessment) above $20,000 will be eligible for a partial subsidy. Family contribution toward the cost of child care will be calculated based on 10% of their annual adjusted income between $20,000 and $40,000, plus an additional 30% of annual adjusted income over $40,000.

To qualify:

1. You must live in the City of Greater Sudbury.

2. Both parents (or the lone parent) must be working or going to school during the hours when your child would be in child care.

Call (705) 671-CITY to apply.

Child Care Parental Contribution Calculations

The following table of parental contributions is based on examples of family annual incomes. Child Care Parental Contribution is determined with applicant's previous year's notice of assessment.

Parental Contribution is based on line 236 of the notice of assessment and the following calculations:

$0 to $20,000 (Income at 0%) = $0

$20,000 to $40,000 = income between $20,000 and $40,000 X 10%

$40,001 and up = income between $20,000 and $40,000 X 10% + income over $40,000 X 30%

Your monthly contribution remains the same regardless of the number of children using care or the number of hours needed.
